Frequently asked questions

What documents do I need to file Form N-400?

Everyone needs a copy of their green card, a state ID, passports covering their time as a permanent resident, a complete list of trips abroad, five years of address and employment history, and the filing fee. Marriage-based applicants and people with arrests, tax debt, or name changes need additional documents.

Do I need to bring documents to the naturalization interview too?

Yes. Bring your green card, all passports, your interview notice, and originals of any documents you submitted copies of. If anything changed since filing (new trips, new job, new address), bring evidence of the changes.

Do dismissed or expunged arrests matter for the N-400?

Yes — you must disclose every arrest and citation, even if charges were dropped or the record was expunged, and bring certified court records. Failing to disclose is treated as fraud and is far more damaging than most underlying incidents.
