American Government — System of Government · Question 41 of 128
What happens if a President does not sign or veto a bill within 10 days (Congress in session)?
Practice answer: It automatically becomes law
Why this is the answer
If Congress is in session and the President does not sign or veto a bill within 10 days, excluding Sundays, the bill becomes law. This is different from a pocket veto, which can happen when Congress adjourns.
On the 2026 citizenship test, a USCIS officer asks up to 20 questions from the official 128-question pool — answering 12 correctly passes.
